How It Works

Families are often supported through fragmented systems that separate emotional well-being, education, and financial capability.

EQ-Lab connects community and research. We design and implement programs in real-world settings, learn from community experience, and use data to refine and strengthen our models.

Our Programs

We organize our work through three interconnected programs.

The Research House

Connecting Research and Community

The Research House is the core of EQ-Lab’s model, connecting research with community practice.

In many systems, research and implementation operate separately, limiting real-world impact.

We address this gap by generating, applying, and translating research in real-world contexts, particularly within bilingual and underserved communities.

Through this approach, EQ-Lab implements programs and turns what we learn into practical knowledge that helps organizations make better decisions and strengthen their impact in the community.

The Sun House

Language and Emotional Development

The Sun House is a bilingual enrichment program for elementary school students, combining Spanish immersion with social-emotional learning.

By positioning bilingualism as an asset, the program strengthens communication, emotional regulation, and long-term opportunity.

Rather than focusing on remediation, it operates as a preventive model that supports both cognitive and emotional development early in life.

The program has also received grant support from organizations including FLANC and ACTFL, which promote bilingual education, language learning, and culturally responsive teaching.

The Money House

Financial Habits and Emotional Awareness

The Money House approaches financial literacy as a behavioral and emotional process.

Rather than focusing only on technical concepts, the program helps families understand how emotions such as stress, habits, and uncertainty influence financial decision-making.

This approach supports the development of sustainable financial behaviors that promote long-term stability.
