Programs
We design and implement programs that connect research with real-world community needs.
Why It Matters
Children and families are often supported through fragmented approaches that separate emotional development, education, and financial well-being.
At EQ-Lab, we address this gap by integrating these dimensions through a bilingual, research-informed approach that reflects how families actually live and make decisions.
How It Works
Our programs operate as a continuous connection between community and research.
We implement community-based initiatives, learn directly from participants, and use those insights to strengthen our programs and inform broader knowledge.
This ensures that our work is both grounded in real experiences and aligned with evidence-based practices.
Our Programs
We organize our work through three interconnected programs.
The Sun House
Language and Emotional Development
The Sun House is a bilingual enrichment program designed for elementary school students, combining Spanish immersion with social-emotional learning.
By positioning bilingualism as an asset, the program supports communication, emotional regulation, and long-term opportunity.
Rather than focusing on remediation, The Sun House operates as a preventive model that strengthens both cognitive and emotional development early in life.
The Money House
Financial Habits and Emotional Awareness
The Money House approaches financial literacy as a behavioral and emotional process.
Rather than focusing only on technical concepts, the program helps families understand how emotions—such as stress, habits, and uncertainty—influence financial decision-making.
Through this approach, families build more sustainable financial behaviors that support long-term stability.
The Research House
Connecting Research and Community
The Research House is the core of EQ-Lab’s model—bridging the gap between research and community practice.
In many systems, research and implementation operate separately, limiting the practical impact of academic knowledge.
The Research House addresses this gap by generating, applying, and translating research in real-world contexts.
Through this approach, EQ-Lab not only implements programs, but also produces knowledge that informs decision-making, strengthens organizations, and contributes to broader systems of practice.
Research & Capacity Building
Through The Research House, EQ-Lab works with organizations, researchers, and community initiatives to strengthen the connection between evidence and practice.
Our work includes:
Applied Research
Design and implementation of community-based research projects that generate actionable insights, particularly within bilingual and underserved populations.
Bilingual Research & Translation
Translation of research, data, and program materials between English and Spanish to ensure accessibility and cultural relevance.
Grant & Research Alignment
Development of research-informed proposals aligned with funder priorities.
Technical Assistance & Capacity Building
Support for organizations to design, evaluate, and communicate impact through structured, research-based approaches.
